All applications to our office for
certified copies of vital records must be in writing and completely identify
the record, as well as satisfactorily establish entitlement to the record
being requested. Entitled individuals include the person named on the
record or that person's spouse, children, legal parents, grandparents,
grandchildren, siblings, or legal representative or guardian.
A current photo
ID which includes a signature must be provided when requesting certified copies in
person and via mail. The $15.00 fee is payable by cash, if in person,
or check/money order made out to the Marshall County Recorder, in person or
by mail. We are now able to accept Visa or MasterCard credit/debit cards. Multiple
copies of the same record are $15.00 each.

Ce rtified birth
certificates are often required for replacing lost drivers licenses, applying
for passports, proving age for employment, school, sports, social security
needs, etc.
To
obtain a raised seal, certified copy of a birth certificate you can request a
copy in writing or come into the office. However there are certain
records we do not have:
- single parent births prior to July 1995
- adoptions
- records ordered sealed by a court of law
- vitals records between the years 1921 to 1941

apply for benefits, etc.

obtain a raised seal, certified copy of a marriage certificate, you may write
to us or come into the office. We will have the record if the marriage
license was applied for in Marshall County.

Once
we receive the application form, we will process your request and mail it out
no later than the following day.
You may
apply for a Marriage License at any County Recorder Office in the state when
the ceremony will be performed in Iowa. Marriage applications are
accepted in Marshall County between the hours of 8:00 A.M. and 4:30
P.M. The county where the application is made is where the marriage
record will be recorded.
To apply
for a Marriage License, the bride, groom and one witness (all must be 18
years or older and the witness knows both parties) must sign the
application before a notary. This office can provide the notary service
and we require all three individuals to have current photo Ids. The $35.00 fee
includes a certified copy of the Marriage Certificate. There is a 3-day
waiting period between when the application is made and the marriage ceremony
may be performed anywhere in Iowa. A 3-day waiver can be applied for that is
an additional $5.00. If the bride and groom are not able to come in to
apply, we can mail the application to be completed in front of a notary
elsewhere.
Following
the ceremony, once the Certificate of Marriage has been returned by the
officiant to the Recorders Office and placed on record, a certified copy will
be mailed to the bride and groom.

may be performed by leaders of a religious faith and judges serving in

wedding service.
